Mark E. Maggio

Dr. Maggio is Professor Emeritus of Social Sciences with extensive externally-funded research, consulting, teaching and training experience in the fields of policy analysis, micro- and macroeconomic analysis, statistics and probability, including forensic statistics, operations research, and political economy.  He was Research Fellow in the College of Business at Iowa State University for many years, and Research Professor and Fellow at the Schar School of Public Policy at George Mason University for more than a decade.  He has professional management, financial analysis, and teaching experience in the U.S., Great Britain, Egypt, and was Visiting Professor in Business and Public Administration in Italy.  His research has been published in the U.S., China, South Korea, Italy, Taiwan, and Japan.

He has special expertise in the areas of trade and transportation systems analysis, modeling, pricing, regulation, and logistics optimization.  In particular, he has conceptualized and developed management and communications facilities for interjurisdictional cooperation on high-technology and high-security and mass casualty response capabilities.  His work includes surface transportation network operations with regard to high-traffic highways and heavy motor vehicle properties.

Professor Maggio has chaired national freight and transport conferences on “Bulk Load Security and Homeland Defense,” “Transportation Policy,” and “Transportation Impacts of the Clean Air Act:  Mobile Source Emissions and Alternative Fuels.”  He served as Editor of the Special Edition of the Policy Studies Journal on Transportation and Infrastructure Policy.


Dr. Maggio is a graduate of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University (MPA) and the Schar School of Public Policy at George Mason University (Ph.D.).
